Veronica has been teaching ballroom dance since 1992. She holds an Associate level certification with North American Dance Teachers Association (NADTA) and with Dance Vision International Dancers Association (DVIDA). She is also a member of the National Dance Council of America (NDCA). In addition to certification, Veronica competes and performs both professionally and with her students. She was a finalist in the 2000 Yuletide Ball Rising Star American Rhythm Championship and a finalist in the Carolina Classic Professional Showdance competition. She has also won several pro-am awards with her students. Veronica and Lee Nugent are co-owners of Simply Ballroom.
Lee has been dancing since 2004. As an amateur dancer, he competed and placed in several national ballroom competitions, including the Carolina Classic, Virginia State, and Maryland Dancesport Championships. Lee completed his training with Simply Ballroom Dance Teachers Academy in 2007 and is now teaching, choreographing and performing at Simply Ballroom and working towards DVIDA professional certification. Lee and Veronica Nugent are co-owners of Simply Ballroom.
Diane decided, after retiring from teaching Math in Chesterfield County, that it was time to learn something new. She walked into a beginner ballroom class at Simply Ballroom and was hooked. After attending group classes, taking private lessons and volunteering at the Richmond Parkinson's Dance Project, Diane's passion for dance grew. She registered for The Ballroom Dance Teacher's Academy and graduated in 2012. She has competed at The Carolina Classic, Roanoke Star Ball and The River City Ballroom Competition, winning awards in ballroom dancing and showcase events. She now teaches both ballroom dance and line dance. Her philosophy of dance is that we all have a dancer in us and should just let go and enjoy it!
Jay is a seasoned professional, having taught for many years at Arthur Murray in Roanoke, VA. Prior to working at Arthur Murray, Jay was a studio owner and a longtime instructor. He teaches all levels from Newomer through Gold American style as well as Country Western, Salsa and other Latin and nightclub dances. He welcomes competition and showcase students as well.
Heidi has been dancing since 2008. She has participated in many ballroom competitions, and has won numerous awards in state and local events including The River City Ballroom Dance Competition, The Roanoke Star Ball and The DC Dance Challenge. She continues to enjoy competing and performing showcase routines, her passion being the smooth dances. Heidi enrolled in Simply Ballroom Dance Teacher's Academy in 2013, where she excelled in her studies. She will soon be working towards DVIDA Professional Certification. Heidi now enjoys working with all levels of students from beginners to competitive dancers
Ray has been dancing since 1992 and he began competing in Country Western in 1995. He was a finalist in the Southeastern Regional Invitational in Knoxville and he placed in the top five at several national competitions including the New Mexico Country/Western Dance Fiesta; the Colorado Country Classic; the Chesapeake Country Dance Jubilee; and St. Louis Gateway Country Classic. He started competing in ballroom dance in 2008 both in Pro-Am and as part of an amateur couple. He competed and placed in many national ballroom dance competitions including: Virginia State Dancesport Championships; the Yuletide Ball; the Interstate Dancesport Challenge; the Carolina Classic; and River City Dance Competition. Ray’s ballroom dance awards include: “Top Male Student” at Yuletide Ball; “Top 20” at Yuletide Ball; and “Student of the Year” at Strictly Ballroom Dance Studio in Fredericksburg, VA. Additionally, he and his amateur partner won the Eleanor Brooks Memorial Scholarship in 2009 and in 2011. Ray graduated from the Simply Ballroom Dance Teachers Academy in 2014 and he joined the Simply Ballroom staff in January 2015.
Penny teaches Ballroom Boogie Fitness classes at Simply Ballroom. Ballroom Boogie Fitness is fun fitness at its best! Penny has fused together what she has learned as a Ballroom dancer and fitness instructor and has created a fitness class for everyone.
