You don't need to wear anything special to get started. Just come in whatever you're wearing that day. Smooth soled shoes are best. Rubber soled shoes tend to stick to the floor. Clogs or flip flops that may fall off are not a great idea.
You don't need a partner either. In group classes, we rotate partners so that everyone gets to dance. We also sometimes have a helper or two. In private lessons, you can dance with your instructor.
